That whole 'face painted black' thing
This isn’t short enough for a Tweet. Here’s what’s on my mind…
You fuckin douche bags that have made such an issue over Harry Connick Jr for having an OPINION that he cancelled public appearances over concerns for his safety. If this country full of such fucking ignorant bogans that this is the ways things are, really? I mean, seriously. COME ON… It’s his fucking opinion that he was ASKED for, and he gave it, and he’s turned in to a pariah over it.
Are you that ignorant to the concept of loaded meanings? The whole skit on Hey Hey would have been JUST as effective in conveying a joke about the Jacksons BY ACTING LIKE THE JACKSONS. When you paint your face black, you’re making a joke out of doing so.
Are you that ignorant to the whole civil rights movement that took place in the USA, where Connick is from? Don’t you think his opinion is going to be influenced by his home environment, and where he’s from? Do you think maybe that, considering the disgusting way that we treat our indigenous population, that we’ve been well informed about during our own schooling and social education, we should be a little more sensitive instead of rushing to defend the stupidity of a bunch of guys that did a stupid skit on Hey Hey it’s fucking Saturday?
I think you got all defensive because it was a foreigner that cast his opinion, on Hey Hey of all shows.
Personally I think everyone should be fair game for mockery, teasing, ridicule, and poking fun at without taking personal insult to it, but as a society we’re not there yet. And we won’t get there any sooner by ridiculing someone for having, and sharing, their opinion on something in a way that doesn’t hurt anyone. It could be argued that the skit itself could have been hurtful to some people. I guess unless you’re black you won’t be able to testify to that fact.
So in summary, if you are the sort of person that would shoot someone down so viciously for sharing their opinion on a topic, to the point they fear (a celeb, no less) for their own safety in public, then you’re a fucking PIECE OF SHIT.
This leads to a rant that I’ll do on another occasion regarding the overwhelming need for an Australian Human Rights act to be put in place, like the Bill of Rights in the USA, and the complacency of our generation.
